It started with an idea: An idea by two bike couriers to develop a bike navigation app. Motivated by their passion for cycling and knowledge gained as bike couriers, they began their “company start-up” adventure. Five years later, the team has expanded to around 25 people and the Bike Citizens services now ranges from the aforementioned bike app to a shop, a self-developed smartphone holder, an analysis tool for cities as well as a magazine for urban bike culture.

The Velo-city Global conference 2016 in Taipei tells the remarkable story of how collaboration between industry, civil society and administration can shape a cycling city. The programme of Velo-city Global 2016 Taipei, launched by a bicycle tour with over 2000 participants led by Taipei’s Mayor, will bring together all aspects of cycling right before Taipei Cycle Show 2016.

Only two weeks have passed since the Eurobike closed its gates and already 9,201.44 km to the west, Interbike opens its fairground in Las Vegas. This particular season is one of the most important one for people working in the bicycle industry. The Interbike, the biggest bike fair in North America, takes place from the 16th to the 18th of August in Las Vegas. 1000 suppliers, representatives from 4000 bicycle retail stores, and more than 20,000 visitors are expected at Interbike.

Each year in August the hippest product innovations in the bicycle scene are honored with the Eurobike Award at Lake Constance. Yesterday it happened again. The outstanding innovations, from an inner tube to an App for cyclists, can be seen at the Eurobike Show until the 29th of August.

“It’s going to be the next big thing,” said Gary Fisher, known as one of the inventors of the mountain bike, as he talked recently about mountain bikes with electric motors. This and other market innovations, which have potential to become the next mega trend, are in the spotlight during the Eurobike 2015 (August 26th - 29th), the most significant bicycle trade show in Europe.

Bike Citizens enhanced its routing algorithm to display which distances in a city can be covered by bike within #5minsbybike. Considering various factors and parameters the algorithm calculates which places can be reached within a given time from an arbitrary (freely selectable) spot in the city.
