The Berlin Bicycle Week – The Whole City on Bike

Bicycle enthusiasts will stream to Berlin from 16 to 22 March. For one whole week, the focus will be on the bicycle and all its aspects. The centrepiece is the Berliner Fahrradschau (Berlin Bike Show), which has developed into Europe’s biggest event for lifestyle, bicycle sport and cycling culture. The trends for the coming season will be presented in the halls of STATION Berlin from 20 to 22 March. Visitors can look forward to a modern exhibition concept and an urban festival atmosphere. Trendy bikes, stylish cycling fashion, accessories and lots of events - a “must go” for fans of cycling culture.

The Berliner Fahrradschau Is a Platform for Cycling Culture

Everything during Berlin Bicycle Week revolves around the lifestyle associated with the bicycle scene. Fares Gabriel Hadid, project leader of the Berliner Fahrradschau, talked with us about the concept: “This year sees the 6th outing of the Berliner Fahrradschau. We organise the biggest exhibitions in Europe in the area of modern bicycle sport and set great store by a properly curated brand portfolio. We are a true trend barometer for the cycling community. Whatever is presented at our exhibition becomes a trend in one to two years.”
A whole week dedicated to all things bicycle for the very first time will be a special highlight of 2015. “We want to present the variety of bike culture during this week. Whether mountain bike, racing bike, BMX, single speed, kid’s bike, classic bike, and many more styles besides – everything in Berlin will revolve around the bicycle for one whole week! With various event formats, exhibitions, shows, races, parties and workshops, we want to cast more light on the cultural aspects of the bicycle and the cycling community,” says Hadid.

Berlin Bicycle Week Provides a Programme for Urban Cyclists

Visitors who appreciate a varied programme will find just what they’re looking for during Berlin Bicycle Week. In addition to a wide range of race formats – from the 24-hour world record and the Folding Bike World Championship to the Laufrad Cup on the Kinderkiez, other original events on the programme include the gathering of the European fixed-gear scene for fans of super-minimalist bikes. Minidrome, Goldsprints, Bike Polo and the Last Man Standing Bike Race with leading international cyclists are just some of the event’s highlights.
Retro style fans should definitely visit the Classic Bicycle Market to browse selected finds and classics. The film festival also offers cineasts an exciting mix of short films, film classics and documentaries on bicycles.

E-Mobility and Holistic Cycling at the Bike Fair

Anyone interested in the future of mobility should join in the discussion at the Bicycle Congress or take the opportunity to take the e-bikes and pedelecs of well-known manufacturers out for a test ride. An experience with Holistic Cycling is not to be missed. Visitors who’d like to learn more about the bicycle as a form of mental therapy can look forward to bicycle yoga, meditation and life coaching sessions.

Classic Bike Racing with Other Means

The Bicycle Week Series, in which the classic races are held in an innovative setting, is especially exciting. One of the most unusual race formats of the year – Strava “King of the Airfield” – will be presented during Berlin Bicycle Week. Professionals, amateurs and pure hobby cyclists are all set to battle for the fastest time in single time rides on the Tempelhofer Feld. This race will be a special experience for spectators and participants alike, not least because of this historic military and civilian airfield.
The “Junkyard Cyclocross” is an event for the more adventurous visitors. A circular course leads the racing cyclists through discarded shipping containers, over cars and other junk to the finish line. The rule is: Do what you like – in terms of styling and equipment that is.

Opening Highlight: Late-Night Visit to the Exhibition

Another highlight is the opening evening of the Berliner Fahrradschau on Friday, 20 March. For the first time, the exhibition will be open between 6pm and 11 pm under the motto “BFS Late Night”. A night-time visit combined with the various opening parties promises to turn into a special exhibition experience.
