Cycling experts and decision-makers from all over the world are coming together in the Netherlands for the Velo-city 2017celebrating The Freedom of Cycling. 1,500 participants from more than 80 countries are expected in Arnheim-Nijmegen, the country’s second largest urban agglomeration, to learn from the world's pre-eminent cycling nation and to exchange information and ideas. Alongside urban development and planning of cycling infrastructure, the focus this year will be on social justice, social participation and the economic viability of cycling.

The bicycle was invented in Mannheim over 200 years ago: the draisine, a velocipede. Since then the bicycle has experienced a revolution, also with regard to social development.

An exciting year of bike fairs is coming to an end. We've visited a lot of fairs and are excited to do so next year. In 2017 there are also great fairs going to take place where numerous innovative products and the must-haves of next years bike scene are going to be presented. We've created an overview, not to miss one of those events.

Different countries, different customs. This also rings true for the loads carries by bike and sometimes also for the number of people riding it. Many things are allowed, some things are forbidden and now and then some things that don’t quite fit, are made to fit. The cultural differences are surprising.

September marked the first attempt of a speed record on a cargo bike, which was held in Denmark and conducted by the cult cargo bike brand "Bullitt". Jim Slade from Larry vs. Harry was part of it and now recalls this day for us.

Cycling in Copenhagen is a little like the “Who’s who?” of bike couriers. Cycling culture is an integral part of city culture here. Around 55% of people in Copenhagen use their bike on a daily basis, and there is scarcely anything that cannot be done or reached by bike.
