33rd StVO amendment: Finally improvements for cycling?

The years of lagging behind compared to other European countries are now finally to be partially made up for. An important step in the right direction for more safety for cyclists will be taken in autumn. Changes such as a legally defined minimum overtaking distance, a green arrow for cyclists at traffic lights and side-by-side cycling are just a few examples in the Road Traffic Regulations (StVO), which will come into force on the 1st of October 2022. Is this the long awaited starting signal for safe cycling in Austria? We provide you with an overview of those regulations that, in our opinion, are the most important and beneficial for cycling in the future.

Cargo bikes would be practical – if they weren’t so cumbersome. Cargo bikes are becoming more and more popular, but public areas often don’t have designated parking spaces for them. Cities are working to change that.

Biking In Jerusalem

At a red light, I was waiting aside a motorcyclist I encountered, as we both descended the same hill, he sped it quickly and I joined a few moments later neatly passing the queuing cars. A short conversation ensued, continuing off from the previous intersection. He said he was jealous of the exercise I was getting while biking, I asked him if he’d consider biking but he said he could never bike in Jerusalem.

Magyar Kerékpárosklub / Hungarian Cyclists Club – Every kilometre on the bike counts!

Under the heading “bike-friendly future”, the Magyar Kerékpárosklub, also known as the Hungarian Cyclists‘ Club (HCC) has been actively engaged on behalf of cycling in urban areas in Hungary since the mid 2000’s with a wide range of campaigns and events. The aim of the Hungarian Cyclists‘ Club is to encourage people to think and motivate them to cycle. One good example: The Bike2Work campaign which started in May again.
