ARGUS Bike Festival Opens Cycling Season
For many cycling enthusiasts, the ARGUS Bike Festival at Vienna’s Rathausplatz signals the start of spring. On April 11 and 12 April, Austria’s largest public bike fair will present a varied programme with something for every bike fan.
The ARGUS Bike Festival has become an unmissable venue for anyone interested in bikes. And they’ve been making their way to the Rathausplatz in Vienna for a decade. Last year, some 100,000 visitors wound their way between exhibitor tents, test tracks and shows that April weekend. The programme this time will be equally rich: RADpaRADe on Vienna’s Ring road, an e-bike test track and the 10th anniversary of the dirt jump pros. It’s no wonder the organisers are expecting a similar influx of visitors this year.
Largest Public Bike Fair in Austria
Anyone looking for a new bike this spring should note down the ARGUS Bike Festival on their calendar. With around 120 exhibitors it will be a huge event. Folding and compact bikes will be represented, along with fixies, city bikes and mountain bikes. E-bikes can be tested at their own on-site track, and there’s a children’s bike world for the young. If it’s a used bike you’re after, try your luck at the FALTER bike flea market or pick up even older parts at the flea market for historic bikes.
5th Vienna RADpaRADe
On Saturday, all the action will be on Vienna’s Ring road. Around 9,000 bike enthusiasts will take over the road around the city centre with its four traffic lanes normally crammed with cars. They’ll go around twice in an relaxed atmosphere with lots of musical accompaniment. Like a critical mass, they’ll take over the ring road that will be blocked to motorised traffic for the duration. Everyone’s welcome!
Vienna Air King Turns 10
In 2006 the dirt jump elite leapt over the huge dirt mound on the Rathausplatz for the first time. Their spectacular tricks are a hit with the public, which is why Vienna Air King is making its 10th appearance this year. Saturday offers a “bike train” of riders as well as the qualifying and the Best Trick Competition. The finale on Sunday promises to leave the audience wide-eyed on a packed Rathausplatz.
Rich Programme At The Bike Festival
There’ll be no let-up at the public bike fair. The programme will continue flat out between the highlights as well. Bike professional Dominik Raab will stage spectacular trial shows, the Madd Gear scooter riders will take the limelight with their new sports model and a Highest Jump Competition, while Mr Marcus will entertain with his high unicycle performance.
The ARGUS Bike Festival takes place on April 11 and 12, 2015 from 9 am to 6 pm, and entry is free.
